15 Photos to Inspire You To Visit Easter Island

Easter Island is a destination shrouded in mystery and beauty.  It is a small island community home to the most remote commercial airport on the planet.  The locals call Easter Island Rapa Nui, and it forms one of the points of the Polynesian triangle.  The other points being New Zealand and Hawaii.  Technically, Easter Island or Rapa Nui is a part of Chile, although it is thousands of miles away.  Chances are you have seen pictures, movies, or documentaries featuring Easter Island.  I absolutely loved my trip, and want to inspire you to visit someday as well!  Here are 17 photos to inspire you to visit Easter Island!

My favorite spot on Easter Island is on top of Rano Kau, an extinct volcano.  The crater is now filled with water, and has an incredible view of the Pacific Ocean.

Rano Raraku is one of the sections of the UNESCO world heritage site at Easter Island.  It is nicknamed the workshop, as much of the stone used to make the famous Moai came from here.

The famous Moai statutes are found all over Easter Island and to this day people are not certain their origins or reason for their creation.

If you go to the post office in town you can get a stamp for your passport.  You should check your country’s rules- there are some that would say this in not a valid stamp and be cause for customs issues.  I did not find that to be the case.

Green Sea turtles frequently hang out in the harbor at Easter Island.  There are several restaurants and cafes here, and its a great spot to grab a meal.

View of Anakena Beach.  This a small but beautiful beach located on Easter Island.  The water is blue and gorgeous.  Make sure you stop here for a swim.

View of the dramatic landscape

Bird Island- legend has it that the young men of Easter Island raced to the top to pluck the egg of a native bird, then raced back to the island in a fierce competition.

Ahu Tongariki is one the famous landmarks of Easter Island, with the platform of Moai sculptures.

The most commercial airport on the planet.  One flight in and one flight out a day.

Another of the view of the harbor and walking around town in Rapa Nui/ Easter Island.

This spot is right next to the Harbor.

Another view on Rano Kau.  The weather was gorgeous- one of my favorite spots on Earth.

Easter Island is a magical place to visit.  It takes a dedicated effort to get there, but so worth it.  It’s probably due to its remoteness that remains so unspoiled today.  I would encourage everyone to visit.
